Hello Winter

Welcome to winter

It’s still officially Fall, says so on the calendar, but because the weather is dictating otherwise, I will be the first to say, Welcome to Winter. Did you notice the lack of excitement in my voice? My favorite seasons are Spring and Summer. I’m just not one to appreciate being cold. But I have decided to retire the complainer in me and embrace winter for what it is. And so I have decided to share my plan for surrendering to this cold and how I will be getting through it gracefully. It’s a combination of the passions I have, Interior Design, Fashion and Health.

Here goes

Firstly, you may need some encouragement to leave the house. I know I will. The second it got cold, I found myself making excuses to stay home. That sleeping hermit inside of me, woke up to share its feelings. But a cute outfit or some fun boots always helps give a little push to exit the door. Why wouldn't I want to share a fantastic outfit with the world. Layers and boots are it. Here are some of my picks:

The next part of the game plan is working on my space. Because if I'm going to be inside more than outside, I need to make sure I'm spending time surrounded by items I love. I'm thinking plaid tablecloths for cozy candelit family dinners. A Le Creuset pot which has the benefits of a healthy material (enameled cast iron), a cool stove top to tabletop look and the enhanced flavor of anything you make. (My one cautionary advice is to stay away from the reds and blues which can have cadmium and lead). Add in some extra throw blankets and pillows for long movie nights, along with some good quality cacao for hot lattes will sure to keep you toasty all winter long.

For the bedroom, to encourage sleeping in and cozy reading, a solid plan is to paint the room a dark moody color and revamp the linens.

Now for the body. First off we have the skin. So many of us suffer from dry and sad skin come winter. This is due to harsh winds and forced air heating (which is why radiant heat flooring is best). Besides for keeping up with fluid intake, (I'm personally a massive tea drinker), treating your skin with holistic skin care is a critical step. Just make sure to change your skin routine up every once in a while for optimal benefits.

And lastly- a question I get so often-how to stay healthy all winter? The way I treat my health is by being consistent with it. Not waiting until I'm depleted to replenish. Consistent plant based foods, consistent supplementation and consistent detox. Lately, I have been doing a lot of infrared sauna visits and have just purchased this sauna blanket, which I'm excited to have on hand. Raw honey is delicious, and has a lot of immune benefits. Make sure you purchase raw and keep heating to a minimum. If you want to go the extra mile here, find yourself some local honey, which will give you additional benefits of protection for your area.

Some other things I do to keep my immune system strong are nightly dry brushing for lymphatic drainage, gua sha and massage for facial lymph detox and floating for magnesium and higher self connection. Along with weekly detox baths with clays, baking soda and essential oils, yoga and breathwork a few times a week.

The most important guidance I can give you for thriving this winter is remaining at a state of inner peace, love and connection. This means, being at home in your space, with people who love and respect you. This means, leaving the house to be around people and spaces with good energy. This means, wearing things with high frequency fabrics that make you feel good. Along with a positive mindset and positive thinking, you will absolutely thrive this winter.
